K-Electric has announced the end of load-shedding in various areas of Karachi, stating that scheduled power outages will continue in areas with high rates of electricity theft.

The power utility announced the withdrawal of temporary load management following the restoration of regasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) supplies and stabilisation of electricity generation at Bin Qasim Power Station III.

According to a K-Electric spokesperson, temporary load management has been discontinued. However, scheduled load-shedding will continue in areas where electricity theft is high and bill recovery rates are low.

Consumers can check the schedule of power outages on K-Electric’s official website.

K-Electric thanked Pakistan LNG Limited and the relevant authorities for their cooperation in restoring RLNG supplies. The company also appreciated consumers’ patience and cooperation during the disruption in electricity supply.

Where are power cuts being reported?

Power cuts have been reported in Lyari, Malir, Landhi, Korangi, Orangi Town, Surjani Town, Quaidabad, Lines Area, New Karachi and Musa Colony. Residents of Mauripur Road, Machhar Colony and parts of Hawksbay have also reported long power suspensions.

The outages affected homes, businesses and daily activities. Residents have questioned why they are facing long power cuts despite paying their electricity bills regularly.

KE says it carries out scheduled load shedding in areas with high electricity theft and low bill recovery. The company has also warned that RLNG supply problems may lead to extra load management during peak hours.

Why has K-Electric warned of more power cuts?

Earlier, in a social media statement, KE said disruptions in international supplies and delays in LNG cargoes had reduced RLNG availability across Pakistan. This put pressure on electricity generation.

The company said it might introduce load management during evening and night-time peak hours if the supply situation worsened. It added that electricity supply was expected to remain stable during the day.

KE said it was working with the relevant authorities to address the supply problems and reduce the impact on consumers.
