K-Electric exempts selected Karachi areas from load-shedding during Ashura

K-Electric announced on Tuesday that selected areas will not face load-shedding during Ashura and has also extended electricity bill payment deadlines to facilitate consumers.

In view of religious activities and for public convenience, K-Electric said that it will make sure an uninterrupted power supply in areas where Ashura processions and gatherings will be held.

A total of 371 feeders across Karachi have been identified. These include 244 high-loss and medium-loss feeders that normally experience scheduled load-shedding.

According to the details, the power outages on these feeders will remain suspended from the evening of 8 Muharram until the morning of 11 Muharram.

K-Electric said that it is working closely with relevant authorities and the administration to make sure of a smooth electricity supply along procession routes and at gathering venues.

The utility company added that extra technical resources will be deployed to deal with any emergency or technical fault. It further added that the operational teams will remain on high alert throughout the period.

K-Electric has also extended electricity bill payment deadlines during the Ashura 2026 holidays.

Bills originally due on June 25 and 26, 2026, can now be paid until June 29, 2026. This is also without any additional surcharge.

All scheduled banks and designated bill collection centres have been informed about the revised deadlines.

Sindh announces Ashura 2026 holidays

According to an official notification, June 25 and 26 will be observed as public holidays throughout the Sindh province. These two days fall on Muharram 9 and 10, 1448 AH, which is also known as Ashura.

All government offices, autonomous and semi autonomous bodies, corporations and local councils working under the Sindh government will remain closed, according to the details.

The Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation (KWSC) has also finalised a comprehensive emergency plan to ensure an uninterrupted water supply and effective drainage services across the city during Muharram and Ashura.
