Recent gas cylinder blasts in Karachi
Earlier on Sunday, a 15-year-old boy tragically lost his life, and four others sustained injuries after a fire broke out following an explosion in a residential building.
The building was located in Karachi’s North Nazimabad area, as reported by police and rescue officials.
Rescue 1122 spokesperson, Hassaanul Haseeb Khan, said that the gas explosion occurred on the top floor of Bismillah Residency, situated near Hyderi Market in Block-E of North Nazimabad during Sehri time.
The explosion’s sound was heard from miles away.
He stated that two apartments were engulfed in flames due to the explosion, resulting in the death of the 15-year-old boy, while four additional individuals were injured.
On Thursday, another explosion took place in a residential area of Karachi, the capital of the southern Sindh province, as residents were preparing a pre-dawn meal on the first day of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, according to local police chief Rizwan Patel.
Low quality LPG cylinders claim lives across Pakistan
In Karachi, as in other parts of Pakistan, most homes and apartment buildings are supplied with natural gas for cooking.
However, due to inconsistent supply and low pressure, many households resort to using liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders as an alternative, which heightens the risk of leaks and explosions.
Similarly in July, a gas explosion followed a wedding reception at a residence in Pakistan’s capital, Islamabad and resulted in the deaths of eight individuals, including the bride and groom.
The blast occurred while guests were gathered to celebrate the couple, as reported by authorities.
