KP weather, temperature amid extreme heat today

The temperature in Karachi has reached 44°C, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department.

Despite the high reading, the feels like temperature is being recorded at around 40°C, indicating slightly moderated conditions due to weather factors. The Met Office further reported that northwesterly winds are blowing at a speed of 15 kilometres per hour.

The prevailing weather conditions highlight ongoing heat intensity in the city, with authorities continuing to monitor the situation.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department has predicted hot and dry weather across most parts of the country, with extremely high temperatures expected in southern regions.

In interior Sindh, Jacobabad recorded a sweltering 46°C, making it the hottest district. Meanwhile, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has issued a heatwave alert for the central and upper districts of the province.

The chief minister identified Jamshoro, Dadu, Nawabshah, Ghotki and Sanghar as areas severely affected by the heatwave. He has directed authorities to immediately set up heatwave relief camps and ensure special arrangements in hospitals to treat heatstroke patients. Residents have also been advised to take precautionary measures when going outdoors.

The heatwave has gripped much of Sindh, with the Met Office reporting that Shaheed Benazirabad, Sakrand, and Dadu recorded temperatures as high as 46.5°C on Friday, several degrees above normal levels. In Hyderabad, temperatures exceeded 45°C.

Officials have warned that the intense heat is likely to persist and urged people to limit outdoor activities, stay hydrated and take necessary precautions to avoid heat related illnesses.

K-Electric assures no loadshedding during heatwave in Karachi

It is pertinent to mention that a day earlier, K-Electric assured an uninterrupted power supply during the ongoing heatwave as the Provincial Disaster Management Authority issued an alert for Karachi and advised authorities to take necessary measures to reduce the impact of extreme temperatures.

KE spokesperson Imran Rana said the utility is fully prepared to meet rising electricity demand and remains committed to maintaining a stable power supply.

The power utility announced that loadshedding has been suspended during the heatwave, highlighting that around 70 per cent of the city is already exempt from power outages.
