Karachi stomach illness Eid ul Azha

Karachi has seen a massive rise in stomach-related illnesses during the three days of Eid ul Azha, with public hospitals reporting an influx of patients suffering from vomiting, diarrhoea, abdominal pain and indigestion.

According to hospital officials, emergency departments across the city remained busy throughout the Eid holidays as a growing number of residents sought treatment for digestive problems, which experts linked to excessive meat consumption and inadequate water intake.

Civil Hospital Emergency In-charge Dr Imran said that more than 100 patients visited the hospital on the second day of Eid with complaints of vomiting and abdominal pain. He added that another 100-plus patients suffering from gastric issues were treated on the third day of the festival.

Similarly, more than 50 patients with stomach-related ailments were brought to Jinnah Hospital on the first day of Eid. Emergency In-charge Irfan Siddiqui said cases of vomiting, diarrhoea and indigestion increased due to overconsumption of meat, reduced water intake and unhealthy eating habits.

Medical experts warned that eating large quantities of meat while neglecting vegetables and fluids can put additional stress on the digestive system. They advised citizens to maintain a balanced diet by consuming salads, vegetables and sufficient water alongside meat and to avoid overeating during the festive period.
