The public has been hit with another major blow following an increase in petrol and diesel prices, as the government has also raised the prices of kerosene oil and light diesel oil, raising concerns that inflationary pressure could increase further.
According to media reports, the Petroleum Division has increased the prices of kerosene oil and light diesel oil following the hike in petrol and high-speed diesel prices. However, the price of jet fuel used by aircraft has been kept unchanged.
The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has increased the price of kerosene oil by Rs17.35 per litre, taking its new price to Rs324.35 per litre.
Similarly, the price of light diesel oil has been increased by Rs12.49 per litre, with the new price set at Rs279.55 per litre.
Meanwhile, there has been no change in the price of jet fuel used by aircraft, which has been maintained at Rs309.35 per litre.
The new prices of petroleum products will take effect from September 12 and remain applicable until September 14.
Earlier, the price of petrol was increased by Rs5.02 per litre, taking its new price to Rs375.82 per litre.
Likewise, the price of high-speed diesel was raised by Rs5.28 per litre, bringing the new price to Rs403.32 per litre.
According to a notification issued by the Petroleum Division, the revised prices of petroleum products will remain effective from September 12 to September 14.
The impact of rising petroleum prices is already being felt in household budgets. With kerosene oil and light diesel oil also becoming more expensive, concerns have grown that inflationary pressure on consumers could intensify further.
Citizens have urged the government to take effective measures to provide relief to the common people instead of increasing prices.
