Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif has called for an immediate ban on “Vigo Dala” vehicles, remarking that anyone who sits behind the wheel of one seems to undergo a strange change in mindset.
According to details, while addressing a session of the National Assembly, Khawaja Asif strongly criticised the security protocols and official practices of his own government and demanded an immediate ban on the entry of Vigo pickup vehicles into the Parliament Lodges.
Speaking in a sarcastic tone, the minister urged lawmakers to “save the Parliament Lodges from Vigo Dalas.”
Commenting on the drivers of such vehicles, he said, “I don’t know why, but whenever someone sits in the driver’s seat of a Dala, something seems to happen to their brain. For God’s sake, these vehicles should be banned.”
The defence minister further questioned the need for excessive security measures, asking why ministers required special protection when 250 to 300 members of parliament were not facing any security threats.
He also urged the Speaker to issue strict guidelines directing ministers not to display the national flag on their official vehicles during the evening hours.
Khawaja Asif went on to joke about political power and protocol, saying, “When we are in government, protocol vehicles lead the way for us, and when we are out of power, the same police vehicles follow behind us.”
His remarks drew loud laughter in the National Assembly, with lawmakers thumping their desks in appreciation of his candid comments.
