Preparations are in full swing as Basant, the centuries-old festival known for its colourful celebrations, springtime joy, and exciting kite-flying, is set to make a grand return to Lahore.
Speedo and Green Electric buses have also been adorned with cultural decorations and measures have been finalized to provide free travel during the three days of Basant from February 6 to 8.
Basant is only being allowed to celebrate in Lahore only.
Punjab Transport Minister said that people will be able to travel for free on Metro, Orange Line, Speedo, and Electric buses. Conditional permission has been granted to bring kite-flying equipment from outside Lahore and Punjab for Basant, while a zero-tolerance policy will be enforced on the use of metal strings and banned chemicals.
The district administration has ordered that kites must not display religious, political, personal, or national flag symbols. A strict zero-tolerance policy will be applied against the use of metallic strings and banned chemicals.
The deputy commissioner said the enforcement of the Kite Flying Act 2025 aims to ensure safe and peaceful festivities during Basant.
To safeguard the public and ensure adherence to provincial regulations, the Lahore deputy commissioner issued a code of conduct for the Basant festival on Thursday.
This code will be strictly enforced on all rooftops and premises where kite flying takes place during the celebrations.
Residents are urged to follow the provisions of the Kite Flying Act 2025 and the associated rules and regulations.
Clear skies predicted for Basant
Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department said the weather will be good during all three days of Basant. Along with clouds, there will be pleasant winds, allowing Lahore residents to fully enjoy the spring festival.
