The federal government has announced the last date for the installation of the M-Tag.
Motorists using Pakistan’s motorway network have been advised to register for an M-Tag before June 15.
According to an advisory issued by One Network, vehicles without a valid M-Tag may face restrictions when entering or travelling on motorways after the deadline.
The measure is part of a broader effort to digitise toll collection and reduce congestion at toll plazas.
Authorities have urged motorists to complete the registration process before the deadline to avoid delays and inconvenience during travel.
The advisory also applies to users of older M-Tags. Vehicle owners whose tags are more than five years old have been instructed to replace them before June 30. Officials have warned that outdated tags may be blocked from 1 July if they are not replaced within the prescribed period.
One Network said replacement charges for older tags have already come into effect. While replacements were available free of charge until the end of May, motorists are now required to pay a fee for obtaining a new tag.
In a further step towards digitalisation, the organisation announced that cash-based M-Tag recharges will be discontinued from June 30.
Motorists will instead be encouraged to use digital payment methods through the M-Tag mobile application, which allows users to recharge accounts, check balances and review travel history.
The changes are expected to streamline motorway operations and reduce waiting times at toll collection points. However, some motorists may need time to adapt to the shift towards digital payments and mandatory electronic tolling.
Officials have advised motorway users to register their M-Tags, replace outdated devices and familiarise themselves with digital recharge options ahead of the implementation deadlines.
