The British member of Parliament (MP), Afzal Khan, has asked the government of Pakistan to take strict action against the banned Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC) members for creating chaos and disorder in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).

The parliamentarian strongly condemned the anti-state activities carried out in AJK over the past few days.

He said that those who were involved in the violent activities should face strict action by the authorities, and complete law and order should be maintained in the region.

Afzal Khan added that the British parliamentarians do not support any kind of anti-state activities, whether it is being carried out in the United Kingdom (UK), Kashmir or Pakistan.

He stated that conducting a peaceful protest is a basic right of everyone, but no one should breach the law by taking cover from it.

The senior British MP referred towards the South Port incident that took place in England. He said that the police were cracking down on those who were involved in anti-state activities. Those who were found guilty were strictly punished under the fast-track judicial system.

He said that the Azad Kashmir government can also adopt a similar approach to ensure accountability.

He further stated that in democratic systems like the UK, peaceful protests are allowed, but those who engage in violence during demonstrations must face legal consequences, and this principle should be applied globally, including in Azad Kashmir.

Afzal Khan warned that instability can be exploited by external elements, adding that certain actors, including India, may try to take advantage of such situations to create unrest in Pakistan.

He said that most of the demands of the people of Azad Kashmir have already been accepted.

Regarding the 12 seats reserved for refugees, he said the correct constitutional solution is to bring change through elections and legal and parliamentary processes.
