Pakistani star Mahira Khan recently caught the attention of the public when during a live concert of the singer Asim Azhar, as a video of her dance moves went viral on social media.
A charismatic actress, Mahira is followed both on-screen and on social media with more than 11.7 million followers on Instagram, maintaining a solid fan base.
The actress, who was last seen with Wahaj Ali in a popular TV commercial, is also set to star together with him in an upcoming drama series.
However, it was her spontaneous performance at Asim Azhar’s concert that has become the talk of the town. During the event, Asim Azhar performed his hit song “Tarsati Hain Nigahen” and Mahira was seen moving to the rhythms in an off-white printed angarkha shirt and churidar pants and a dupatta of the same colour.

Many people objected to the suitability of her dance moves, for an actress of her calibre. One of the comments said, “For a senior actress, these dance moves seem out of place” while another user questioned, “Why do some people try to look younger than their age in Pakistan?”
A few comparisons were also drawn between Mahira’s performance and some viral concert moments of Indian singer AP Dhillon and actress Tara Sutaria.
While Mahira Khan is extremely popular, this incident reflects on the degree of scrutiny that public figures have to go under when their appearance and actions are concerned, even if the incident is live.
