'Makkah Defence Pact to promote peace, security, prosperity': PM Shehbaz

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said on Monday that the Makkah Agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye is not against any country while speaking at a cabinet meeting.

Purpose of Makkah Defence Pact

The prime minister said the defence agreement was the result of years of efforts. He added that the purpose of the agreement is to promote peace, security and prosperity in the region.

He said work on the agreement had been going on for a long time and it has now been put into action.

Shehbaz Sharif said that the defence cooperation between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia is not new.

The two countries also signed a defence agreement last year. He said the new agreement will further strengthen their defence partnership.

The prime minister also highlighted the long friendship between Pakistan and Turkiye. He said the two countries have worked together in defence, trade, economy and other areas. He added that both countries want to further improve their cooperation.

Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, Turkiye agreement

Shehbaz Sharif said the agreement between Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Turkiye is not meant to target or attack any third country.

Its main purpose is to improve defence cooperation and support peace and security in the region.

The prime minister also praised Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for their role in completing the agreement.

He said the relevant officials and institutions also played an important role in making the agreement possible.

He expressed hope that defence and strategic cooperation between the three countries will grow further in the coming days.

The prime minister also praised the sacrifices of Pakistan’s security forces in the fight against terrorism. He said the sacrifices made by the forces will not be forgotten.

Shehbaz Sharif said that Pakistan is firmly fighting the challenge of terrorism. He expressed hope that the country will overcome terrorism and move towards greater development.
