Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz ‘s son, Junaid Safdar, on Monday, came out in support of President Asif Ali Zardari and his family regarding a recent viral tweet, called it “Disgusting Tweet”.

A popular X user posted a tweet on February 14, “Asif Ali Zardari was arrested on 10 October 1990 and released on 6 February 1993. Asifa Bhutto Zardari was born on 3 February 1993, three days before his release. Make the assumptions yourself.”

Junaid Safdar shared his response on Instagram defending President Zardari, “Disgusting tweet. No measure of pity can suffice for an ideology that laps up its own venom yet learns nothing. The same repugnant script, played out over and over.”

Who is Junaid Safdar?

Junaid Safdar, the son of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz and the grandson of Nawaz Sharif, is a well-educated individual (LSE/UCL alumni) who is currently prioritising family and community over active political engagement.

In January 2026, he married Shanzay Ali, the granddaughter of PML-N leader Sheikh Rohail Asghar, in Lahore. The wedding took place at the Sharif family’s residence in Lahore, Jati Umra, and was graced by numerous notable political figures.

Among the attendees were Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, former Prime Minister and PML-N President Nawaz Sharif, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, Punjab ministers Marriyum Aurangzeb and Azma Bukhari, as well as the Prime Minister’s aide Rana Sanaullah, along with other party leaders.

Images from the wedding ceremony rapidly circulated on social media, showcasing groom Junaid Safdar elegantly attired in a classic white sherwani, seated beside the bride, who appeared radiant in a traditional red saree.

The groom, a lawyer trained in the UK, chose a sophisticated look with a navy blue sherwani, complemented by a matching brown shawl that added a touch of regal elegance to his ensemble.

Next to him, Shanzeh made a bold impression in a dark green Sabyasachi lehenga, intricately designed and enhanced with vibrant splashes of color that added depth and drama to her attire.

Junaid’s marriage to Shanzeh has generated considerable interest, with social media users and supporters extending warm wishes and prayers for the couple as they begin their new life together. It is noteworthy that this is Junaid’s second marriage.

His first marriage was to Ayesha Saif, the daughter of former National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman Saifur Rehman Khan, in 2021.

However, the couple separated after two years, with Junaid announcing the divorce in an Instagram post in 2023.
