On Friday, the security forces conducted an intelligence-based pre-emptive operation in Killi Padda, north of Mastung, based on the intelligence reports that the terrorists were gathering to plan a high-profile attack (HPA) in the area.
Security sources say the operation started about 5:45 pm, when soldiers cordoned off a portion of the village and an abandoned house compound believed to be being used by terrorists.
A surveillance drone was used during the search, and when an intense explosion happened within one of the buildings.
Initial reports indicate a suspected suicide bomber detonated explosives after sensing that he had been surrounded by security forces.
The blast led to a massive search of the compound, where the security forces picked up five bodies of terrorists, including parts of the suspected suicide bomber’s body.

Weapons, explosives and communications gear were also recovered, in significant quantities.
What was recovered included two handheld wireless communication sets, 15 Under Barrel Grenade Launcher (UBGL) rounds, a number of small arms ammunition, three SMG’s, one M4 rifle, night vision and a STOS device, in addition to a large amount of explosives.
The security forces also seized two Toyota Probox cars, which were thought to be set up for use as a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED).
Further, officials estimated that there were six to eight improvised explosive devices (IEDs) inside the compound.
An Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team has been called upon to safely dispose of the explosives.
A sweeping sanitisation is underway and the area is still cordoned off. The initial estimation is that the militants were likely to attack in Mastung or nearby in a high-profile attack.
