The scheduled white-ball cricket series between Afghanistan and Sri Lanka has been postponed due to regional tensions in the Middle East, according to the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB).
The ACB had planned to host Sri Lanka for a limited-overs series in the United Arab Emirates from March 13 to March 25. However, the board has now confirmed that the series will be rescheduled and played later this year.
In an official statement, the ACB said the decision was taken because of logistical challenges arising from the current regional situation. The board added that both cricket boards are working to finalise new dates toward the end of the year.
Under the original schedule, the three-match T20 International series was set to take place on March 13, 15 and 17 at Sharjah Cricket Stadium. The teams were then expected to play a three-match One Day International (ODI) series in Dubai on March 20, 22 and 25.
The postponement comes as travel and operational concerns linked to developments in the region continue to affect international sporting events.
Further details about the revised schedule are expected to be announced by the Afghanistan Cricket Board in the coming months.
On the other hand, Bangladesh secured a convincing eight-wicket victory over Pakistan in the first One Day International, comfortably chasing down a modest target of 115 runs.
After winning the toss, Bangladesh elected to field first and invited Pakistan to bat. The decision proved fruitful as the Pakistani batting lineup struggled throughout the innings and was bowled out for just 114 runs.
In response, Bangladesh chased the target with ease, reaching 115 runs for the loss of only two wickets in 15.1 overs. Tanzeed Hasan led the chase with an impressive unbeaten 67, guiding his team to victory with a confident batting display. Najamul Hossain also contributed with a steady 27 runs.
