Renowned Australian pacer Mitchell Starc has expressed hope of featuring in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2027 as he looks to extend his remarkable 16-year international career.
The veteran left-arm fast bowler said the possibility of playing in the 2027 World Cup remains open, signalling his intention to continue representing Australia in the coming years. He expressed this in an interview with a foreign media channel.
Australia’s third-highest wicket-taker
The 36-year-old left-arm pacer is Australia’s third-highest wicket-taker across formats with 759 wickets, behind only Shane Warne and Glenn McGrath.
Starc retired from Twenty20 Internationals in September to prolong his career in Test and One-Day International cricket.
The next ICC Cricket World Cup is scheduled to take place in October and November 2027 in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.
“For Australia, I’ve had the opportunity to play alongside some of my best teammates. I enjoy the tough competition, and I enjoy playing at the highest level,” Starc told Reuters. Starc said that despite the demands of international cricket, his body remains in good condition.
“There’s always something going on. I’ve had a few issues with my elbow and shoulder, which I’m still managing,” he said. He was named Player of the Series in Australia’s recent 4-1 Ashes victory over England.
He added, “The 2027 World Cup is still a long way away, but I hope to make it there. The World Cup is always a goal for every cricketer.”
