Mohsin Naqvi, the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), has shown his full support for the national team’s selection committee today and ensured that they will have the full support of the PCB in the process as they try to finalise the squads for the upcoming international assignments.

During a meeting that was held recently at the PCB headquarters, Naqvi met members of the selection committee and discussed in detail the process of team selection.

The chairman stressed that it was important that the committee should carry out its duties with honesty and professionalism while ensuring that decisions taken are purely on merit and performance of players.

He assured the selectors that they will be free to choose the best available players without any external pressure or influence.

“I’m right behind you. Don’t try to make the decisions in a way that critics will be pleased. Your job is to make the right calls” for Pakistan cricket, Naqvi had told the committee during the meeting, asking them to only focus on what was best for the national team.

The meeting was attended by several former cricketers of Pakistan who currently are a part of the selection panel including Misbah-ul-Haq, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Asad Shafiq and Aaqib Javed.

The selectors expressed their gratitude to the PCB chairman for showing faith in the work that they were doing and for the assurance of full support provided.

They also reiterated their intention of carrying out their duties equitably and responsibly.

According to analysts, Naqvi’s message is directed to reinforce transparency in the selection and to ensure that merit is the major factor in team’s decisions.

With a few important international tournaments and series looming ahead, the role that the selection committee plays will play an integral part in the future of Pakistan cricket.
