Traders in Murree rejecting the government’s smart lockdown measures have announced a complete shutter-down strike from tomorrow.
According to details, the Central Traders Association of Murree has declared an indefinite strike, dismissing the imposed smart lockdown. The traders demand that Murree, given its status as a major tourist destination, be exempted from such restrictions.
The association stated that from tomorrow morning, all small and large business centres, markets, and shops in Murree will remain completely closed.
Trader leaders said Murree’s economy relies heavily on tourism. They warned that the smart lockdown is severely damaging local businesses, adding that the strike will continue until the area is granted exemption.
The protest call gained further momentum after the Transport Association also announced full support for the shutter-down strike. With transporters joining in, there are fears that movement and tourism-related activities in Murree may come to a complete halt.
Traders urged the government to announce a special economic package or relaxation for Murree to sustain tourist inflow and protect local livelihoods.
