Murree imposes vehicle entry ban

The district administration has imposed a complete ban on the entry of more vehicles in order to facilitate the rescue and safe evacuation of stranded tourists.

According to the details, more than 5,000 tourist vehicles were stranded in the hill station due to heavy snowfall.

Tourists stranded

Continuous snowfall has disrupted daily life. Thousands of tourists were stuck last night as the snow worsened overnight.

The DPO of Murree said visibility on roads has dropped because of the snowstorm. He added that roads are open and traffic is moving.

Punjab’s Communications Minister, Malik Sohaib Bharth, said roads in Murree are functional.

All Punjab government departments are on high alert. Heavy machinery is already in use to keep roads clear.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority reported that intermittent snowfall continues. In the last 24 hours, Murree recorded 12 inches of snow.

More rain and snow are likely in Murree and the Galiyat region in the next few hours. Authorities advised tourists to avoid unnecessary travel and follow safety instructions.

Murree Expressway partially closed

In addition to this, the Murree Expressway is partially closed to regular traffic as a precaution.

The National Highways and Motorway Police advised the public to avoid unnecessary travel. Officers are on site to guide commuters.

All machinery and extra personnel are deployed for traffic monitoring. Travellers are advised to check weather conditions before starting their journey through official channels.

Winter response strengthened

Rescue 1122 has strengthened its winter response. Two 4×4 jeeps and utility bikes have been deployed for rescue in snow-blocked areas, according to the sources.

Vehicles will operate in Kuldana, Jhika Gali, Lower Topa, and nearby areas. They will rescue stranded vehicles and take tourists to temporary shelters.

Holidays announced

Schools are closed for two days in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and the northern areas due to heavy snowfall.

Intermittent snow continues in Hatian Bala, Chunari, Chakothi, Lipa Valley, Ganga Choti, Arang Kel, and Sargan Valley.

Heavy rain, snow, and blizzards have disrupted life in northern Pakistan. Many roads are closed, trapping tourists and isolating areas.
