United States (US) Chargé d’Affaires Natalie A. Baker has shared her experience of serving in Pakistan, describing the role as both an honour and a demanding responsibility while highlighting the country’s people, culture and leadership.

Speaking in a candid interview, Baker said her childhood dream was to travel the world, visit fascinating places and meet people from different cultures — ambitions that ultimately inspired her to pursue a diplomatic career.

She said the opportunity to represent the United States, promote peace and strengthen ties with partner nations motivated her to become a diplomat.

Reflecting on her current assignment, Baker described serving in Pakistan as a privilege, saying the best part of her role is representing US President Donald Trump and his administration while engaging with Pakistan’s leaders and communities across the country.

She praised Pakistan’s “amazingly strong visionary leaders” and said her position has allowed her to meet people from all walks of life during her travels around the country.

However, Baker admitted that balancing her responsibilities remains the biggest challenge.

“I think the most challenging part is that there are just not enough hours in the day,” she said, explaining that she wants to meet more people, visit more places and advance the US mission’s priorities across Pakistan.

Offering advice to young people interested in public service, Baker encouraged them to remain curious and humble while understanding the needs of others.

She said everyone has the ability to use their talents to serve their communities, adding that acts of service can strengthen societies and help make the world a better place.
