The National Library of Pakistan has launched a special lecture series to provide academic guidance to students preparing for the Central Superior Services (CSS) competitive examination.

The initiative helps CSS candidates improve their preparation for compulsory subjects and develop important writing skills.

The programme has received support from the National Assembly Standing Committee on National Heritage and Culture. The committee endorsed the initiative during a meeting at Parliament House chaired by MNA Syeda Nosheen Iftikhar.

The lecture series will cover important compulsory CSS subjects, including English, Pakistan Studies, General Knowledge, History of Pakistan and Everyday Science.

Special focus on English and writing skills

English subject will be an important part of the programme.

The lecture series will focus on English grammar and composition. Candidates will also receive guidance on précis writing, report writing and official writing skills.

previously, FPSC officials told a parliamentary committee that many candidates struggle with English Essay and English Precis and Composition. Weak structure, unclear expression and poor argument development were among the common problems found in unsuccessful papers.

The National Assembly committee welcomed the National Library’s plan but said it should operate within the library’s existing mandate and available resources.

It stated that the programme should not create an unnecessary financial or administrative burden.

The committee also called for a proper system to record attendance and participation. It recommended regular assessments to determine whether the lecture series is producing useful results for CSS aspirants.

Additionally, the programme gives candidates another source of guidance outside traditional coaching centres.

The National Library is located in Islamabad and provides academic and research facilities to its members and visitors. Its current public visiting hours are Monday to Saturday from 8am to 9pm.

The CSS examination is conducted by the Federal Public Service Commission and remains one of Pakistan’s main routes for recruitment to federal civil services.
