The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) has arrested 200 Chinese nationals over their alleged involvement in financial fraud.
According to a statement issued by the NCCIA spokesperson, the agency launched a major crackdown on digital financial fraud in Islamabad. It carried out dozens of raids in a single day.
Where were the suspects arrested?
The NCCIA conducted its largest raid in Islamabad’s I-9 sector. The agency then carried out further raids in different sectors of the capital after identifying the suspects.
During the operation, officials arrested 200 Chinese nationals.
What did the agency recover?
The NCCIA said it recovered laptops, servers and computer hard drives from the arrested suspects.
According to the agency, the foreign nationals were allegedly involved in major financial fraud cases.
61 arrested by NCCIA in call centre fraud
Previously, the NCCIA arrested 61 people during a raid on an alleged illegal call centre in Rawalpindi.
According to an NCCIA spokesperson, the raid took place at a call centre in the Commercial Market area of Satellite Town. Officials seized 71 mobile phones and 155 laptops from the premises.
The agency alleged that the suspects were part of an international fraud network linked to a foreign loan recovery scheme. They were accused of threatening people and extorting money from them.
A case has been registered and an investigation is under way. The NCCIA said illegal call centres posed a serious threat to Pakistan’s reputation. It also vowed to continue action against those involved in cybercrime.
The agency urged citizens to report suspected cybercrime by calling its helpline at 1799 or contacting their nearest NCCIA circle.
The allegations have not been proven in court. The suspects are entitled to due process.
In a separate development, the NCCIA has issued guidelines for citizens seeking to file cybercrime complaints. The agency shared instructions on social media about the information required to register a complaint.
