NDMA alerts citizens to possible rain, stormy conditions

NDMA issues weather alert: Thunderstorms, rain expected across Pakistan

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a weather alert, warning of thunderstorms, strong winds, and rainfall in various parts of the country over the next 12 hours.

According to the NDMA, rain is expected in both the upper and plain regions of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with several districts likely to experience thunderstorms and gusty winds. Authorities have urged citizens to remain cautious and follow weather advisories as unstable weather conditions are expected to persist during the forecast period.

The districts likely to be affected include Peshawar, Nowshera, Charsadda, Mardan, Swabi, Abbottabad, Haripur, Mansehra, Swat, Upper and Lower Dir, Malakand, Bajaur, Shangla, Buner, Mohmand, Khyber, North and South Waziristan, Bannu, Kohat, Karak, and Dera Ismail Khan.

The alert also forecasts rain in several districts of Punjab, including Mianwali, Khushab, Chakwal, Talagang, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Sialkot, Hafizabad, Lahore, Gujranwala, Narowal, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Layyah, Multan, Kot Addu, Bahawalnagar, Hasilpur, Dera Ghazi Khan, Rajanpur, and Rahim Yar Khan.

Similarly, rainfall is expected in various parts of Sindh, including Karachi, Hyderabad, Thatta, Badin, Mirpurkhas, Tharparkar, Umerkot, Sanghar, Nawabshah, Dadu, Larkana, Jacobabad, Shikarpur, Sukkur, and Ghotki.

In addition, thunderstorms are likely in the districts of Muzaffarabad, Neelum Valley, Poonch, Bagh, Haveli, Kotli, and Mirpur in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. In Gilgit-Baltistan, the affected areas include Gilgit, Skardu, Hunza, Nagar, Diamer, Astore, Ghanche, Shigar, and Kharmang.

The NDMA has warned that heavy rainfall and strong winds may trigger landslides in hilly areas, cause road blockages, and disrupt the power supply. Citizens are advised to avoid unnecessary travel, stay informed about weather updates, and take all necessary precautionary measures during the forecast period.
