Netizens criticise Afghan minister’s remarks on breaking idols

Afghan minister criticised for his remarks regarding breaking idols

Social media users have criticised remarks made by an Afghan Taliban’s Agriculture Minister Ata Umari on his anti-Muslim remarks regarding breaking idols after his comments went viral on X, formerly Twitter.

The Afghan Taliban Minister while visiting Hindu temples said that Mahmud of Ghaznavi’s act of destroying idols was wrong.

He said that every religion should be respected here .

The remarks, shared by the X account Regional Asia, shows the minister making comments about destroying idols, triggering widespread debate online.

“So here the opposition to the Sunnah of Ibrahim (AS) is clearly visible. Because the start of the Sunnah of Ibrahim (AS) was with idols. Both Prophet Ibrahim (AS) and the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) broke idols. So they are moving away from their own Sunnah, the post said.

“On the other hand, these shameless people are ashamed of Mahmud Ghaznavi breaking idols, but what about their own terrorists who go around bombing mosques? Who carry out suicide attacks just on sectarian issues — isn’t that hypocrisy? They mercilessly kill their own Muslim brothers. And yet they are concerned about other religions. They attack outside churches, but they are hurt by idol-breaking. If this is not hypocrisy of the Afghan Taliban, then what is?”
