New winter gas supply schedule announced

The Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) has announced a revised gas supply schedule for domestic consumers during the winter season, confirming that gas will be available during three designated periods each day.

According to the company’s announcement, the new schedule aims to ensure that households receive gas during essential cooking hours as winter demand increases across the country.

SSGC said the arrangements have been introduced in accordance with federal government directives, with priority being given to domestic consumers.

SSGC announces new gas supply timings

Under the announced winter schedule, domestic consumers will receive gas during the following hours:

Time

Gas Supply Hours

Morning

6:30 AM to 9:00 AM

Afternoon

12:00 PM to 2:30 PM

Evening

6:00 PM to 9:00 PM

The company said these timings have been designed to facilitate households during breakfast, lunch and dinner preparation.

SSGC reiterated its commitment to prioritising domestic consumers and managing available gas supplies during the winter months.

The utility said ensuring gas availability during designated cooking hours remains a key part of its winter supply strategy.

SNGPL introduces gas restrictions in Punjab, KP and Islamabad

Meanwhile, Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) has also introduced a gas load management schedule for domestic consumers in Islamabad, Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

According to a report, the restrictions have been implemented amid declining liquefied natural gas (LNG) availability and increasing demand during the winter season.

Under the new arrangements, households in these areas will receive gas during the same three daily periods announced by SSGC.

Gas will be supplied from 6:30 AM to 9:00 AM, 12:00 PM to 2:30 PM and 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM.

The government has prioritised domestic gas consumption to manage limited supplies and minimise inconvenience to households during cooking hours.

Gas supply to CNG sector reduced

As part of its winter gas management measures, SNGPL has also reduced gas supplies to the compressed natural gas (CNG) sector.

According to the report, supplies to the sector have been reduced from 50 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd) to 35 mmcfd.

Authorities are also considering completely suspending gas supplies to the CNG sector in the coming days as pressure on the supply system increases.

The reduction is part of broader efforts to manage available gas resources and prioritise essential domestic requirements.

Industrial and power sectors face gas supply cuts

The ongoing gas shortage has also affected several industrial sectors.

The cement industry has already shifted to coal, while industrial consumers connected to the gas distribution network are experiencing reduced supplies.

Industries directly connected to the transmission network, including export-oriented and non-export businesses, are currently receiving approximately 200 mmcfd of gas.

However, further reductions could be introduced if gas availability continues to decline.

Meanwhile, the power sector is receiving around 140 mmcfd of gas, while approximately 53 mmcfd is being supplied to the fertiliser industry.

Domestic consumers given priority during winter

The gas utilities have maintained that domestic consumers will remain a priority as authorities work to balance increasing winter demand with limited gas availability.

Both SSGC and SNGPL have introduced designated supply periods to help households plan their daily cooking activities.

Consumers are advised to follow the announced timings and use gas responsibly during the winter season.

The revised arrangements highlight the pressure on Pakistan’s gas supply system as colder weather increases household energy requirements.
