After the Brazil team’s World Cup debacle, Neymar has appeared to confirm that his international career is over, saying that he no longer wishes to continue playing for his country.
The 34-year-old announced the decision after his Brazilian club defeated Universidad Central of Venezuela, 4-2, in a South American club tournament on Tuesday.
Brazil’s top scorer in history suggested that his days at the national team may be over after the game.
“I suppose my national team time has already been over; I made history there and I’m very happy about that. A lot of things happened there, I gave blood there, I gave my life there, I fought and I battled for the yellow jersey there. However, I don’t want to keep it anymore,” Neymar said.

His latest comments back up what he said after Brazil’s 2-1 defeat to Norway in the last 16 of the World Cup on July 5.
Neymar in that game was able to net a penalty in stoppage time, but Brazil were still beaten and exited from the tournament.
It became the nation’s earliest knockout since 1990.
It was an emotional Neymar who, after the defeat, suggested that his international career was over, stating: “I tried, I tried. Now it’s over.”
Neymar played four World Cups, and retired as the top scorer of the Brazilian national team, having scored 80 goals and assisted 58 goals in 130 appearances.
He had great success with club football, but never won a senior trophy at senior football level with Brazil, except for the Confederations Cup in 2013.
His career is one of the most successful international careers in the history of Brazilian football.
