Web desk: A special ceremony was held at the Joint Staff Headquarters on Wednesday to bid farewell to General Sahir Shamshad Mirza, NI, NI (M), as he concluded 40 years of distinguished military service and stepped down as Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee (CJCSC), according to an official statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

The ceremony was attended by former chairmen of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee as well as senior officers from the Army, Navy and Air Force, the ISPR stated.

In his farewell address, General Mirza expressed gratitude to Allah Almighty for granting him the strength to serve the nation with dedication, professionalism and selfless commitment.

He paid glowing tribute to the Armed Forces for their unwavering sacrifices in defending the country and honoured the martyrs and their families for their enduring courage.

General Mirza noted that, given the current geo-strategic environment, a strong national defence remains a very important pillar of Pakistan’s security framework.

He reaffirmed that the nation’s defence was “impregnable.” He also said that Pakistan’s officers and soldiers stand ever prepared to make it even stronger.

Earlier, upon his arrival at the Joint Staff Headquarters, General Mirza was presented with a ‘Guard of Honour’ by a smartly turned-out tri-services contingent.
