Pakistan: bakra eid 2026
He has warned that the shortage could create serious problems for people during the upcoming Eid ul Adha 2026.
In his statement, he said that livestock numbers are falling quickly. It is creating a large gap between the demand and supply.
He talked about broad meat exports, non regulated slaughter of animals, and huge consumption of meat at weddings and other events as reasons for the growing shortage.
President Ahmed Qureshi also stated that prices of mutton or goat meat have gone above Rs3,000 per kilogram. This has put the meat out of reach for many ordinary citizens.
Livestock shortage on Eid ul Adha
He warned that prices of goats and mutton are likely to rise further as Eid ul Adha approaches. This makes it harder for people to buy animals for sacrifice.
He appealed to the President, Prime Minister, Minister of Interior, Federal Minister for National Food Security and Research, and Minister of Commerce to urgently address the issue.
He stressed that meat exports should be limited immediately. Adding that a policy should be introduced to regulate meat consumption in weddings and other such events.
Khurshid Ahmed Qureshi also added that importing livestock from countries like Ethiopia and Somalia has become necessary to balance supply and demand, and to prevent prices from rising too much.
He further warned that without immediate action, animal prices could become unaffordable for the public near Eid ul Adha. This could also affect the performance of sacrifices on Eid.
Eid ul Adha 2026 date
