Pakistan is likely to introduce a major administrative change to the Hajj Scheme 2027 by authorising a single bank to receive Hajj applications instead of the 16 banks that previously handled the process. According to sources, the proposal is currently under review, and an official decision is expected soon.
If approved, both online and branch payments for the government and private Hajj schemes will be processed exclusively through Habib Bank, according to media reports. Pilgrims will be able to submit their applications and make payments through Habib Bank’s branches and digital banking system. All financial transactions related to both schemes will be handled by the bank. An agreement between the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Habib Bank is expected to be signed soon.
Previously, 16 banks participated in receiving applications under the Government Hajj Scheme. Habib Bank has reportedly been selected because of its extensive branch network and banking facilities. Pakistan’s total Hajj quota for 2027 is expected to be 179,720 pilgrims. Under the proposed allocation, 60% of the quota will be reserved for the Government Hajj Scheme, while the remaining 40% will be allocated to the Private Hajj Scheme. The schedule for receiving applications under the Hajj Scheme 2027 is expected to be announced soon.
Under the new system, Hajj pilgrims will no longer be required to visit a bank branch to deposit their payments. Instead, they will be able to pay their Hajj expenses online from home. However, the option to deposit payments at designated branches of the selected bank will also remain available.
According to sources, applications for the Government Hajj Scheme are likely to be accepted from mid-August, while the detailed application schedule is expected to be announced shortly. Pakistan has been allocated a Hajj quota of 179,210 pilgrims for Hajj 2027.
