The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) has increased the price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) on Friday.
What are the new LPG prices in Pakistan
According to a notification issued by OGRA, the price of LPG has gone up by Rs13 per kilogram. The new official price is Rs254 per kg.
After the increase, the price of a domestic LPG cylinder has risen by Rs152. The new price of a household cylinder is Rs3,000.93.
Additionally, the price of a commercial LPG cylinder has increased by Rs585. The new price is Rs11,546.
LPG sold for Rs500 to Rs550 per kg
Earlier this month, reports showed that LPG was being sold for Rs500 to Rs550 per kg in several cities of South Punjab.
OGRA had said that only the authority can set official LPG prices across Pakistan. It further added that the local administrations are responsible for making sure the official rates are followed.
The regulator also issued show cause notices to nine LPG plants in Punjab and Sindh over overcharging. The plants were asked to submit a written reply within seven days.
OGRA launches crackdown
Recently, OGRA launched a crackdown on people and companies selling LPG above the official price.
As part of the operation, OGRA sealed six LPG plants in Rawalpindi for overcharging customers.
An OGRA spokesperson said that the authority is taking strict action against companies, dealers and LPG plants across Pakistan for breaking the rules and charging higher prices.
The spokesperson said that OGRA is committed to protecting consumers and will not allow illegal profiteering.
The authority added that the crackdown against LPG dealers and companies involved in overcharging will continue.
OGRA also said that it will make sure LPG is available across the country at government approved rates.
The spokesperson warned that companies, plants and dealers found violating the rules will face strict legal action.
