Pakistan wins 10 medals on opening day of Karate Championship

A proud moment for the country as Pakistan made an impressive start at the South Asian Karate Championship, winning a total of 10 medals on the opening day.

Mir Hamza Kasi won Pakistan’s first gold medal in the men’s -75kg category.

Taha Mustafa secured the country’s second gold medal in the junior boys’ -63kg category.

Pakistan’s women karatekas also delivered strong performances. Anita Fatima, Hafiza Iqra Munawar, Aqsa Azam, Laiba Zia, and Rabia Farooq each claimed a bronze medal.

In the men’s events, Mir Waiz Khan won the silver medal, while Shams Iftikhar and Mir Hamza added two more bronze medals to Pakistan’s tally.

The 10th Cadet, Junior, U-21, and Senior South Asian Karate Championship is taking place from July 15–19, 2026, at the Shaheed Suhrawardi Indoor Stadium in Dhaka, Bangladesh

Karate has become one of Pakistan’s more successful individual sports. Pakistani athletes have won medals at the South Asian Games, South Asian Karate Championships, Islamic Solidarity Games, and other international events
