Pakistan Railways Police (PRP) has been asked to check passengers’ tickets and take action against people travelling without valid tickets.
The decision was announced in an official order issued by the Office of the Inspector General of Pakistan Railways Police at the Central Police Office (CPO) in Lahore on Monday.
Under the order, special teams from the PRP CPO Lahore will carry out ticket checks. They will work with Special Branch staff in their respective divisions.
Which four routes are included?
Four teams have been formed to check passengers on four railway routes.
The routes are:
- Peshawar to Rawalpindi
- Lahore to Multan
- Sukkur to Karachi on the Main Line
- Sukkur to Quetta
The teams must send a daily report to the CPO. They have also been told to share their live location through WhatsApp twice a day.
The locations will be sent to a designated number so that senior officials can monitor their work.
In addition to this, the order also states that negligence in carrying out the task will not be accepted.
Pakistan Railways announces Sialkot-Rawalpindi train service
Recently, Railways Minister Hanif Abbasi said that the government is working to improve railway connectivity and upgrade the country’s rail network.
The Mohenjo Daro Passenger Train will resume its service on September 15. A new passenger train between Sialkot and Rawalpindi will also start operating on October 15.
The government has increased efforts to restore passenger services and improve railway infrastructure. Pakistan Railways recorded its highest-ever revenue of Rs115.2 billion ($414 million) in FY2025–26.
This was a 24.2 per cent increase from the previous year. However, the organisation is still facing financial losses.
Authorities are now working to improve railway stations and restore more passenger services. They are also planning infrastructure upgrades to modernise the country’s railway network.
Ticket prices usually range from Rs1,500 to Rs4,000 for Economy class. AC class tickets generally cost between Rs6,000 and Rs13,000.
