The Russian ambassador to Pakistan, Albert Khorev, has said that Moscow is ready to sell oil to Pakistan and that Pakistan could benefit from the current situation.
Speaking at a press conference in Islamabad, Ambassador Albert P. Khorev said that if Pakistan contacts them, Russia will provide it with cheaper oil.
The Russian ambassador also noted that Russia has had decades of military and technical cooperation with Iran.
The Russian ambassador said Iran’s response targeted US military bases in the Gulf, but he did not provide further details, citing uncertainty.
‘It is impossible to predict when and how the current tensions will end,’ he added.
Khorev added that the world was surprised by US President Donald Trump’s military actions. He described the situation as “complex and unpredictable” and said it is hard to say when tensions will ease.
He also condemned the attack on a girls’ school in Iran that killed 170 children, calling it “highly deplorable” and urging all sides to exercise restraint.
Further, he stated that issues should be resolved through political and diplomatic means under the UN Charter.
The Russian envoy highlighted that the energy sector is the most important part of Pakistan and Russia cooperation, and any progress will depend on Pakistan taking the first step to engage.
Like many countries, Pakistan is struggling with rising fuel prices as supply chains are disrupted by the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
Shipping through the Strait of Hormuz, a major route for global oil, has stopped after Iran blocked the passage in response to joint US Israel strikes.
Pakistan has raised petrol and diesel prices by 20 per cent due to these disruptions. Federal ministers said the increase is temporary and will be reversed once the conflict ends.
