Pakistan slams Israel’s Somaliland move, renews backing for Somalia and Palestine

Israel’s announcement recognising Somaliland

Web Desk: Pakistan condemned Israel’s announcement recognising Somaliland, rejecting the move as illegal and a threat to regional stability, the Foreign Office said.

In a strongly worded statement, Islamabad said it fully supports Somalia’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity and urged the international community to oppose actions that undermine them.

Rejection of recognition move

Foreign Office spokesperson Tahir Andrabi said Pakistan “categorically rejects” any attempt to damage Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He denounced Israel’s declaration recognising the “so-called Somaliland” as unacceptable.

According to the statement, Pakistan views the move as a direct challenge to Somalia’s internationally recognized unity and warned that such steps could destabilise the Horn of Africa.

Violation of international law

The spokesperson said Pakistan considers the recognition “illegal and provocative,” adding that it represents a clear violation of international law.

These actions threaten peace and stability not only in Somalia but across the wider region. Consequently, Pakistan called on the global community to reject all measures that run counter to Somalia’s unity.

Reaffirmation of support for Somalia

Pakistan reiterated its “full and unwavering support” for Somalia’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity, according to the statement issued by ministry of foreign affairs.

Islamabad has consistently backed Somalia’s internationally recognised government and has opposed any unilateral steps affecting its borders, officials added.

Position on Palestine reiterated

Meanwhile, the Foreign Office also restated Pakistan’s position on Palestine. Andrabi said Pakistan completely rejects the forced displacement of Palestinians.

He reaffirmed Islamabad’s support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination and for the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on pre-1967 borders.
