For the first time in the 20-year history of Pakistan cricket, spinners have taken all 10 wickets in a T-20I.
Pakistan’s spinners produced a historic performance as they took all 10 Australian wickets in the second T20 International on Saturday, helping Pakistan secure a 90-run victory and a 2-0 lead in the three-match series.
Batting first, Pakistan posted a strong total of 198 for 5 in their 20 overs. In reply, Australia was bowled out for just 108 in the 16th over, unable to cope with the spin onslaught.
Abrar Ahmed and Shadab Khan led the charge, claiming 3 wickets each, while Usman Tariq picked up 2 wickets. Saim and Nawaz contributed one wicket apiece, completing the remarkable feat.
This is the first time in 20 years that Pakistani spinners have taken all 10 wickets in a T20I. Overall, it is only the 10th time in T20 history that spinners have claimed all wickets in an innings, and just the second occurrence in a match between full-member nations. The previous instance among full members was when Indian spinners achieved the milestone against the West Indies in Florida in 2022.
Pakistan’s record-breaking performance in Lahore has set a new benchmark in T20 cricket and highlighted the potency of their spin attack.
Australia has suffered their worst defeat as Pakistan won the T20 series against them for the first time in 8 years. Chasing the target set by Pakistan, the entire Australian team was dismissed for just 110 runs.
In the second match of the three-match T20 series, Pakistan set a target of 199 runs for Australia to win, which is the highest T20 total Pakistan has ever scored against Australia.
Earlier, in 2018, Pakistan had scored 194 for 7 against Australia in Harare. The Green Shirts also posted 191 runs in both the 2010 and 2014 T20 World Cups, losing 6 and 5 wickets respectively against the Kangaroos.
In the match played at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore, Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha won the toss and chose to bat first. Pakistan scored 198 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in their allotted 20 overs.
