Cricket Australia is considering expanding Pakistan’s future Test tours, with the possibility of hosting the national team for a five-match Test series. Speaking to the media, Cricket Australia Chief Executive Todd Greenberg said Pakistan could be a potential opponent for a longer Test series, particularly given the large Pakistani community living in Australia.
Greenberg said Cricket Australia could potentially host Pakistan for a five-Test series, highlighting the strong interest in cricket among the Pakistani diaspora. He also said the inclusion of 12 teams in the next World Test Championship cycle was a realistic possibility.
According to Greenberg, Zimbabwe, Afghanistan and Ireland could also be given an opportunity to compete in the World Test Championship over a two-year cycle. Pakistan are currently scheduled to tour Australia in December 2027, with the two teams set to play a three-Test series.
Cricket Australia is considering a major expansion of Pakistan’s future Test tour, including the possibility of hosting the national side for a five-match Test series.
Cricket Australia chief executive Todd Greenberg said discussions were underway regarding the future schedule, with Pakistan currently scheduled to tour Australia in December 2027 for a three-Test series. If expanded to five matches, the series would mark a significant increase from the existing schedule and provide a longer and more competitive Test contest between the two teams.
Greenberg also indicated that expanding the World Test Championship (WTC) to 12 teams for the next championship cycle was becoming an increasingly realistic possibility. Under the proposed expansion, Zimbabwe, Afghanistan and Ireland could potentially be added to the WTC, giving more teams an opportunity to compete in the longest format and broadening participation in Test cricket.
