Pakistani player fined after T20 World Cup disappointment

Pakistan’s campaign in the T20 World Cup 2026 ended in frustration, prompting the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to take stern action against the national squad. Each player has been fined Rs5 million following a series of underwhelming performances that saw the team fall short of expectations.

The tournament began nervously for Pakistan as they barely avoided defeat against the Netherlands and eked out a win over the United States.

With their experience in Sri Lankan conditions and a strong spin attack hopes were high for a better showing against India. Unfortunately the team repeated its struggles from the Asia Cup and failed to deliver once again.

A victory over Namibia helped Pakistan advance to the Super 8 stage but a rain-affected clash with New Zealand and a subsequent loss to England put their semi-final ambitions in jeopardy. Despite a determined win against Sri Lanka Pakistan’s net run rate was insufficient allowing New Zealand to progress to the semi-finals and bringing an early end to the Green Shirts’ campaign.

The PCB’s decision to fine the players reflects a shift toward accountability. Sources confirmed that the squad was informed of the fines shortly after their defeat to India signaling the board’s intention to link financial rewards strictly to on-field performance.

Officials stressed that while players earn substantial salaries A category cricketers receive Rs4.5 million per month plus Rs2.07 million from ICC revenue shares and B-category players earn Rs3 million plus Rs1.552 million the era of unconditional bonuses is over.

Fans and officials alike expressed disappointment but the PCB hopes the financial penalties will serve as a wake-up call for the team ahead of future international tournaments.
