Yesterday, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) ruled that political parties and their officeholders cannot block roads during protests or public gatherings.
The court gave the decision while hearing a case about the PTI protest planned for September 27 in Islamabad.
The court also directed chief ministers to make sure that government resources and state machinery are not used for political activities.
A three-member larger bench headed by Chief Justice Sardar Sarfaraz Dogar announced the verdict after hearing arguments from the parties involved.
What limit was set for protest?
The court said political parties have a constitutional right to hold peaceful protests. However, this right does not allow them to block public roads or disturb daily life.
The bench also said provincial governments must stop the use of official resources for political purposes.
During the hearing, the Islamabad advocate general referred to PTI protests held in 2022 and 2024.
