The 2nd Women’s Khosar Gang Expedition of the Alpine Club of Pakistan has successfully concluded with the successful ascent of 6,040 metre Khosar Gang Peak by eight Pakistani women mountaineers from all over the nation, which is a landmark achievement for the nation in the field of mountaineering.
This team consisted of climbers from Gilgit-Baltistan, Punjab, KPK, Balochistan and Islamabad. It was led by Bibi Afzon and technical support from renowned high altitude highly experienced & qualified guides Ali Mohammad Sadpara, Sadiq Hussain Sadpara and Ilyas Hushe. Alpine Club of Pakistan Secretary General Ayaz Shigri congratulated the climbers and expressed his belief that Pakistani women have very few equals in terms of courage, determination and professional capabilities.
He termed the successful peak-climbing as a big leap for the mountaineering women of Pakistan and the Alpine Club will strive to provide them with more national and international platforms for display of their talent in mountaineering activities.
Earlier, the President of the Alpine Club of Pakistan, Major General (Retd) Irfan Arshad, on March 5, 2026, announced that private helicopter service would be provided to tourists for tourism and rescue operations in Pakistan’s northern areas.
The president said that the move could also help expand tourism activities in areas that are currently difficult to reach.
Speaking in an interview, Arshad said helicopter operations in Pakistan’s northern mountains have largely been handled by military aviation.
“It is extremely necessary. So far, only military aviation has been looking after helicopter operations, and they mainly provide services for rescue missions,” he said.
He added that the limited availability of helicopters had affected tourism safaris, transportation facilities and logistical support for mountaineering expeditions heading to Pakistan’s major peaks.
