New petrol, diesel prices announced in Pakistan today

The federal government on Tuesday increased petrol and diesel prices, with the new rates taking effect from Wednesday, August 26.

According to a Petroleum Division notification, the price of petrol has gone up by Rs1.12 per litre, while high-speed diesel (HSD) has increased by Rs1.11 per litre.

The notification said that OGRA had revised the ex-depot prices of petroleum products for August 26 and 27, 2026.

Following the latest revision, petrol will now cost Rs343.10 per litre, while the price of diesel has been set at Rs371.80 per litre.

On August 24, OGRA had increased the petrol price to Rs341.98 per litre and diesel to Rs370.69 per litre.

The new rates are part of the government’s policy of reviewing fuel prices daily from Monday to Friday based on changes in international oil prices.

KMC lifts ban

The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) has decided to end restrictions on the use of official vehicles and petrol. Normal use of government vehicles will resume from September 1, 2026.

The decision brings an end to the fuel-saving measures introduced earlier this year. The restrictions were imposed in March after a rise in fuel prices increased government expenses.

KMC Financial Advisor Gulzar Ali issued a notification confirming the withdrawal of the restrictions. Under the previous policy, 60 per cent of KMC’s official vehicles were kept off the roads to reduce fuel costs.

These vehicles will now be allowed to operate again. The restrictions also applied to officials up to Grade 17. KMC has now decided to remove the fuel-saving measures and return to normal use of official vehicles.

The latest notification allows official vehicles to return to normal operations. It also restores the regular use of petrol for government vehicles from the beginning of September.

The move is expected to make transportation easier for KMC officials and departments that rely on government vehicles for their daily work.
