The federal government on Tuesday increased petrol and diesel prices, with the new rates taking effect from Wednesday, September 2.
The price of petrol has been set at Rs343.87 per litre, and the price of diesel has been set at Rs370.92 per litre. These prices have been changed for the next 24 hours.
The price of petrol was increased by Rs1.08, and the price of diesel was increased by Rs0.50.
Previously, the Oil & Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) announced new prices for petroleum products. The rates of high-speed diesel and petrol were reduced.
The price of petrol had been cut by Rs0.50 per litre, while the price of high-speed diesel had been reduced by Rs0.19 per litre.
Following the revision, petrol was available at Rs342.60 per litre. And the new price of high-speed diesel had been fixed at Rs371.61 per litre.
On July 17, the government had increased the price of petrol by Rs5.44 per litre and HSD by Rs31.50 per litre for the following three days.
After the increase, petrol was priced at Rs316.15 per litre, while diesel reached Rs354.35 per litre.
Govt raises petrol, diesel dealers’ margin
Earlier, the government increased the profit margin for petrol and diesel dealers by Rs1.34 per litre on Friday.
The new margin will come into effect across the country from midnight tonight. After the increase, dealers will receive Rs9.98 per litre instead of the previous Rs8.64 per litre.
Sources said that the decision was made after dealers raised concerns about their rising business costs.
They had also been demanding an increase in their margins for some time. The new margin will apply to petrol and diesel sold at fuel stations across Pakistan.
Previously, Pakistan’s weekly inflation rose by 0.49 per cent in the week ending August 20, 2026.
The increase was mainly driven by higher prices of onions, petrol and chicken, according to the latest data from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS).
Onion prices saw the biggest increase. They rose by 14.17 per cent from the previous week. Petrol prices went up by 3.77 per cent, while chicken prices increased by 3.35 per cent.
