The eligibility criteria and application process for the Prime Minister’s Chromebook Scheme 2026 have been outlined, with the federal government planning to distribute 500,000 Chromebook devices among top-performing ninth-grade students across Pakistan.
Under the scheme, students who meet the eligibility requirements will be selected on merit, with quotas allocated to provinces and regions.
Eligibility criteria
To qualify for the PM Chromebook Scheme 2026, applicants must meet the following requirements:
-
Students must have secured at least 50% marks in the latest ninth-grade (SSC-I) examinations.
-
Results will be verified by the Inter Board Coordination Commission (IBCC), while selection will be based on merit within each region or province, educational board and academic stream.
-
Applicants must be enrolled in government schools, private schools operating in collaboration with provincial governments or provincial education foundations, or registered madrasas.
Province-wise Chromebook quota
The scheme has allocated the following quotas for different provinces and regions:
-
Punjab: 181,090 devices
-
Sindh: 85,925 devices
-
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: 51,170 devices
-
Balochistan: 31,815 devices
-
Islamabad: 100,000 devices
-
Azad Jammu and Kashmir: 25,000 devices
-
Gilgit-Baltistan: 25,000 devices
Under the proposed distribution formula, 80% of each regional quota will be reserved for school students and 20% for madrasa students. Within these allocations, 70% will be designated for science students and 30% for arts students.
Verification and additional facilities
Schools will verify students’ mark sheets, current enrolment status and affiliation with their respective institutions before the Chromebooks are dispatched through courier services.
The courier system will include a tracking facility. Complaint committees will also be established to address issues related to student selection, verification and delivery delays.
In addition to a Chromebook, each selected student will receive a bag and a MiFi internet device to facilitate access to online educational resources, digital content and electronic libraries from home.
