The federal government of Pakistan has announced a petrol relief package for the public, named the Prime Minister (PM) Petrol Relief Package. Here is how to apply for the program.
The package offers a subsidy of Rs100 per litre to eligible owners of motorcycles, rickshaws, Qingqis and small cars with engines of up to 800cc.
The scheme is part of the government’s efforts to provide relief to people facing higher fuel costs.
Eligible vehicle owners will be able to register through an SMS-based system and receive a digital fuel token for use at participating petrol stations.
The government says the programme will initially be rolled out in Islamabad, before being extended to other parts of the country, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.
Who is eligible for PM petrol relief package
The subsidy is aimed at owners of:
- Motorcycles
- Rickshaws
- Qingqi vehicles
- Cars with engines of up to 800cc
Under the scheme, motorcycles and Qingqis can receive subsidised fuel for up to 20 litres per month, while eligible cars can receive up to 30 litres per month.
How to apply for PM petrol relief package
The Ministry of Information Technology (MoIT) has introduced an SMS-based registration process using the short code 9771 to apply for the PM petrol relief package.
Vehicle owners are required to send their registration details in the following format:

The message should be sent to 9771.
Sending charges may also be applied.
Applicants should ensure that the mobile SIM being used for registration is registered under the same CNIC as the vehicle owner.
After receiving confirmation that the registration has been completed successfully, applicants can request their digital fuel token.
They need to:
- Open the SMS application on their phone.
- Type TOK.
- Send the message to 9771.
- Wait for the digital fuel token number to arrive by SMS.
The token can then be presented at a participating petrol station when purchasing fuel.
The government is introducing digital verification systems at participating petrol stations to process the subsidy.
The initial rollout is scheduled for Islamabad, beginning during the night between September 14 and 15, 2026.
Moreover, the scheme is then expected to expand nationwide, with participating stations in Punjab, Sindh, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), Balochistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit-Baltistan.
According to the information released about the scheme, the wider rollout is scheduled to begin during the night between September 16 and 17, 2026.
At participating stations, eligible customers will show their digital fuel token to the operator, who will verify the token and apply the Rs100 per litre subsidy to the fuel purchase.
The amount of relief will depend on the monthly fuel quota.
The government has advised people seeking further information to follow updates from the Ministry of Energy (Petroleum Division) and the official petrol relief scheme portal.
