Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has said that economies around the world are currently under pressure due to ongoing regional conflicts. Referring to the situation in the Middle East, the Prime Minister noted that there is currently a temporary ceasefire between the United States and Iran. He said that while many countries are facing economic difficulties, Pakistan is in a comparatively better position.
He added that, unlike other regions, Pakistan is not experiencing shortages or long queues, crediting the situation to effective coordination among state institutions.
He expressed this while addressing a federal cabinet meeting held in Islamabad on Thursday, saying that the nation pays tribute to all those heroes who made Pakistan a nuclear power. He further stated that Pakistan’s nuclear capability is a key component of its national defence.
He noted that on May 10, the entire nation celebrated the anniversary of the Marka-e-Haq in a dignified manner. He prayed that Allah Almighty, in His infinite mercy and grace, may grant Pakistan victory, honour, and dignity, which were achieved through national unity, cohesion, and consensus.
Continuing his speech, the Prime Minister said that the entire nation stood united as one during this struggle. He added that the Pakistan Armed Forces taught the enemy a lesson that it will remember for a long time. He also mentioned that May 28 is approaching and said that history will always remember this day, as Pakistan’s nuclear program will remain a strong pillar of its defence.
He stated that Pakistan has always maintained the position that its nuclear program is for defensive purposes, not for aggression. That is why the world recognises Pakistan as a responsible nuclear power. He paid tribute to the scientists, politicians, institutions, and governments who contributed to making Pakistan a nuclear power, and said that PPP founder Zulfikar Ali Bhutto laid the foundation of the program, while his leader, Nawaz Sharif, took it to completion.
The Prime Minister further said that while honouring all these heroes, Pakistan must now focus on becoming an economic power, and the government is working day and night as a team toward this goal. He added that the results of these efforts are gradually becoming visible. Although this is a difficult and long journey, nations that commit to overcoming challenges ultimately succeed.
