ISLAMABAD: While addressing a meeting regarding the business plan of Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) for the promotion of small and medium enterprises in the country, the Prime Minister (PM) Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif said that there is a great potential to increase exports through the development of SMEs in the country.
A roadmap for the next three years was under discussion in the meeting for promoting the production of small and medium enterprises.
Members in the Meeting
The Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Attaullah Tarar, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister, Haroon Akhtar, Governor State Bank Jamil Ahmed, Chief Secretaries of all four provinces, Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan, newly elected board members of SMEDA, and officers of relevant institutions were present on the occasion.
Decisions Made during Meeting
The Prime Minister appreciated Special Assistant Haroon Akhtar and the newly elected Board of Directors of SMEDA for formulating a feasible and effective plan.
On this occasion, he said that small and medium enterprises are the backbone of the country’s economy, and their development has great potential to increase the country’s exports.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif directed the relevant institutions to speed up the process of providing loans to small and medium enterprises on easy terms by banks and other financial institutions.
The PM was briefed in the meeting on the ongoing measures to further enhance the ongoing cooperation with various countries to introduce Pakistan’s SME sector in the global market on a competitive basis.
It was informed in the briefing that several workshops have been organised in six cities recently to increase the capacity of domestic SMEs.
While work is still underway on several training programs to prepare small and medium enterprises for global competition.
It was also decided in the meeting that women’s participation and full role in the SME sector.
