PMD warns of hot, dry weather in Karachi

Karachi weather

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has warned the residents of Karachi on a probable increase in the heat intensity in the coming days as it predicts hotter and drier weather conditions throughout the city.

According to the Met Office Karachi the maximum temperature is expected to be between 34C and 36C while the minimum temperature is recorded at 20.8C. Authorities said that the high humidity levels up to 95 per cent will possibly create muggy conditions that will make the heat feel worse.

Currently light northwesterly winds are blowing at a speed of around 7 kilometers per hour in the city. Meteorologists said strong sunshine during daytime hours is likely to increase the heat advising citizens to avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight and increase water intake to stay hydrated.

Meanwhile officials also expressed fear that recent developments in Iran could cause the polluted air particles to get carried away to western areas of Pakistan potentially impacting the air quality in that area.

Weather predictions suggest different conditions from place to place in the country. In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa strong winds and thunder showers with rains are expected in several areas with chances of hailstorms at isolated locations. Punjab is also expected to encounter the partly cloudy weather along with gusty winds and rain with thunder.

Most districts of Sindh are likely to stay hot and dry while Balochistan will mostly be wet with partly cloudy weather in northern areas.

In Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan cloudy conditions with rain, gusty winds and thunderstorms are forecast with possible occurrences of hailstorms in some parts of Kashmir.

Similarly, Travelers planning travel between Gilgit and Rawalpindi have been requested to postpone their travels after several parts of the Karakoram Highway (KKH) were blocked due to landslides caused by incessant rain.

According to Gilgit-Baltistan Police heavy rains experienced landslides at multiple places in Upper and Lower Kohistan blocking the important highway linking Gilgit-Baltistan with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
