Princess Kate opens up about return to motherly duties after health battle

The Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton went on her first solo overseas trip to Italy earlier this month, hinting at her complete return to royal responsibilities.

Nevertheless, it appears to have introduced a new challenge regarding her three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, as noted by royal expert Jennie Bond.

She further added that her “mum guilt” presents a new hurdle she must confront now that she has resumed her professional duties.

Princess Kate has been slowly returning to her royal responsibilities following the challenging two years she faced due to her battle with cancer.

Although Catherine is in remission after a nine-month treatment period, she has openly discussed the reality of experiencing both good and bad days during her recovery.

She has also mentioned that life is never quite the same afterwards, even when one feels at their best.

Princess of Wales visits Italy after cancer diagnosis

On May 5, the Princess of Wales announced her intention to visit Italy from May 13 to May 14, which is her first official trip abroad since revealing her cancer diagnosis in 2024.

At the age of 44, Kate spent a considerable portion of that year away from the public eye while undergoing treatment and recovery. She resumed a more active schedule of responsibilities after announcing her remission in early 2025.

Princess Kate’s two-day journey to Reggio Emilia in northern Italy is also associated with one of her primary initiatives such as early childhood development.

She views this trip to Italy as an opportunity for research, dedicating time to explore Reggio Emilia’s globally acknowledged methods of early childhood education.

Considering it a significant next step for her Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood, Kate plans to engage with educators, parents, children, as well as civic and business leaders to observe the initiatives in practice, according to her office at Kensington Palace.
