A prisoner at District Jail Lodhran has approached the judiciary, seeking the same special concession recently granted to PTI founder Imran Ahmed Khan Niazi. According to the petition, the prisoner has requested special relief on medical grounds, citing the concession granted in Imran Niazi’s case as the basis for his plea.
It remains to be seen how many more prisoners will seek similar medical concessions, following the precedent set by the Supreme Court in the Imran Niazi case. It is worth mentioning here that the Supreme Court recently ordered that PTI founder Imran Khan be shifted from Adiala Jail, Rawalpindi, to Shifa International Hospital in Islamabad within two days in view of his alleged deteriorating health condition. The five-member bench has directed the federal government to constitute a five-member medical board to assess and determine Khan’s health condition.
Dr Faisal Sultan and his sister, Dr Uzma, will be allowed to serve on the medical board. The court has also directed that a meeting be held between Imran Khan, his family members, and his personal doctors. The federal government has been directed to submit Khan’s complete medical record to the court. Now, the prisoner, Muhammad Nadeem, has filed a petition seeking special relief on medical grounds, citing the concession granted in Imran Niazi’s case.
