PM Shehbaz was already inclined to permit fan attendance but had expressed concerns over nationwide austerity measures aimed at reducing fuel consumption and curbing expenditures. These restrictions had earlier created uncertainty about allowing large crowds at major sporting events.

“Dear cricket fans, I requested the prime minister to allow spectators in the stadiums,” Naqvi said, adding that while Shehbaz Sharif supported the idea, he remained mindful of the government’s efforts to maintain economic discipline.
