The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has warned that mobile SIM cards that remain inactive for six months will be blocked.
Telecom operators can deactivate SIMs that have not been used for 180 days. SIMs with no calls, messages, or internet activity during this period will be considered inactive and may be suspended.
The PTA said that once a SIM is blocked, the number can be given to another user. The previous owner will have no legal claim over it.
Mobile users are advised to use their SIMs regularly to avoid deactivation and losing their numbers.
Overseas Pakistanis
Earlier, the PTA launched a program to help overseas Pakistanis keep their SIMs active.
Pakistanis living abroad can protect their SIMs from being blocked by this.
But the users need to inform their mobile company and pay the required charges.
This makes sure that they can continue using their number and stay in touch with family in Pakistan. The PTA also provided guidelines for subscribers.
Prepaid customers must use their SIM at least once in every 180 days. They can make a call, send a message, or use mobile data to keep it active.
Postpaid customers must pay their monthly line rent and any pending dues on time to retain their connection.
The PTA has also warned about fake calls and UAN numbers. Scammers are copying PTA, FIA, and bank identities.
The authority said no government organisation will ever ask for your OTP, PIN, ID card number, or biometrics.
Consumers should only verify information through official government channels.
